My Design Process.

The problem:

Spending more time deciding what to watch rather than watching something? Well, that seems to be the case for most people.

The goal:

I wanted to make the experience of choosing what to watch easier, faster, and more enjoyable for the user.

Key challenges:

Where to begin!

After conducting user research and subsequently creating empathy maps based on my findings, I found my initial assumptions were accurate. User's had a major pain point in the time it takes to decide what to watch, for a variety of different reasons.

I assessed each user journey and highlighted where each individual user was wasting their time the most and where they were hindered in their search for a suitable film.

Initial concepts:

From my research I had a few main pain points I needed to address.

1) Time - People value their time and it is therefore important to reduce the amount of time spent searching for a suitable film/series.

2) Information - Users had to hop around from one app or website to another in order to reach their goal.

This valuable information facilitated me in the creation of an all in one app where users can find trailers for films or series, view reviews and synopses for their selection, and subsequently be taken to a specific streaming service or local cinema website to watch what they want as fast as possible.

Conclusions and next steps:

Upon completion of my high fidelity prototype I was struck by the variety of possible solutions for this project and as a consequence, I feel the end product is slightly confusing for users.

This being my very first design project, I don’t feel I really hit the nail on the head. I want to revisit this in order to keep the UI more phone friendly. Retrospectively, I would also prioritise one key solution in order for a more viable and coherent result. I aim to continue updating and upgrading the app. Keep checking this page for future updates!
